Reboxing Day

What is ReBoxing Day?

Boxing Day is a Holiday celebrated after Christmas Day, a holiday that is spent with friends and family.

Many will use it as a day to eat leftovers and binge Christmas movies but it also serves as a day to box up Christmas gifts, or the things your gifts are replacing, and pass them along.

Boxing day is commonly celebrated in Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, but has not picked up popularity in the U.S.A.

The Problem With Christmas

In the US, 25% more trash is generated from Thanksgiving to the New Year's holiday which is more than any other time of year. This extra waste adds up to 25 million tons of extra garbage, or about 1 million extra tons per week according to the EPA.

That means the average American throws away about 95 pounds of clothing every year. While 95 percent of used textiles can be recycled, 85 percent land in the trash.

5 billion pounds of returned items end up in the trash every year. Some 61% of Americans surveyed admit to getting at least one unwanted gift over the holidays, totaling roughly 154 million American adults
