Find out more about Retold from our annual Retold Report! Learn about how we have performed throughout the years, click this link to view our annual Retold Report!
What can I include in my Retold Bag? All clean and dry household textiles and clothes. We accept your best stuff (yes, wedding dresses!) and also items that are really worn i.e a bra where the underwire has come out or that one odd sock. |
Heads up long-term Retolders! If you ordered bags before June 1st, 2024 and haven't sent them in, please contact us at [email protected] . Unfortunately, the shipping company that powered our bag labels prior to June has recently been sold and they have *just* made us aware that older bag labels will no longer be accepted by USPS from September 6th onwards. We are very disappointed at the short notice, but mostly we’re saddened about the inconvenience it causes you - our most valuable customers! This change only impacts old bags - so if you have received any since June 1st, those are still good to go! |
Do you recycle scraps and leftover textiles from DIY projects? YES! Our Scraps bags are here! Our Scrap Bags are specifically designed for recycling scraps and leftovers from sewing, quilting, and crocheting projects. The process of recycling textile scraps is different from recycling clothes, and the recycling facilities used are completely separate. Therefore, we kindly ask you to use Retold Bags for clothes and Scrap Bags for fabric scraps. For more information or if you have any questions, please contact us to find out which product best fits your recycling needs. |
Is there anything I CANNOT include in my Scraps bag? Thanks for checking! Leather | Coated textiles (PVC, polyurethane, ect.) | Scrims using plastic | Down filled items | Wet or Chemical residue on the materials | Neoprene. |
What happens to the items I put in my Retold bag? Well, first - they will be diverted from landfill! #nolandfill Once sorted by the type and quality of garment, they will go to thrift stores, charities, upcyclers, or recycling companies. Everyone has "skin" in the supply chain per se, so there is incentive to not lose items to landfill because that will be a loss of revenue for each partner. Very rarely, an off-shore partner may also create opportunities for micro-economies using bulk products that may be sent to us (I.E not post-consumer individual items submitted in Retold bags). |
What do you mean by “household textiles”? Blankets, towels, dish cloths, bed linen, cotton face masks etc! You get the idea :-) |
Do you take pillows or cushions? Unfortunately not, they aren't suitable for resale and are very difficult to recycle, depending on the inners. |
Do you take shoes? Um, depends on the shoes. Our bags are biodegradable and made from corn starch, so any heels or sharp hardwear will break the bags. Also its very hard to recycle most shoes. But if you have lightweight, new-ish shoes that you think can be donated or resold in a thrift store, throw them in! |
So you will take “good stuff” and “bad stuff”? Sure will! Things you would be inclined to throw away; items you think would be ok to donate and yes, items that can actually be re-sold. We take care of the lot and get the right outlets the right pieces so nothing goes to landfill. |
Even my old underpants? Yes, even your old underpants! Or (laundered) cloth diapers. Or that old blanket that's been in your dog’s kennel for years (once you have washed it, of course!) |
But isn't it bad for the environment to use your plastic yellow Retold bags? Actually, our bags aren't plastic! They are made from cornstarch and are completely biodegradable and compostable. It was really important to us to find bags that wouldn’t add to landfill. Woot! |
Can I get a tax write-off by using Retold? Not at this time - while we do move some of our items to charities, using Retold doesn't classify as a “donation” for tax purposes. |
How many tons of clothes have you saved from landfill? Just watch the yellow “ticker” on the bottom of our site! We are kinda smug, but with our customer’s help that number keeps going up and up! |
Could anything from my Retold bag EVER go directly to landfill? If your clothes or textiles are clean and dry, then nope! Our recycling partners may remove some hardware or zips etc, but the fabric itself will be diverted from landfills. |
I want to pay quarterly - can I do that? Yes, sign up for our Quarterly Subscription and we will charge your credit card and send you a bag quarterly! |
I want to pause my subscription. Is that possible? Unfortunately not at this time. We will send you bags quarterly but you can use them and send them back to us whenever suits you - it's at your leisure! You can however skip a Quarter - just email us at [email protected] for help! |
I want to use several bags to do a huge clean out. Can I get my 6 subscription bags all at one time? Our system can only send the subscription bags quarterly. But if you need several bags all at one time, either buy The Threesome or Closet Clean Out or email us at [email protected] and we can help you out! |
I want to cancel my subscription. How do I do that? Oh we are bummed! But we get it and yes, you can cancel any time. Via your original subscription email confirmation, you can access your Customer Info and select to cancel easily. But please note, by purchasing either The Annual Subscription or The Quarterly Subscription you are committing to the entire purchase price charged to date. There are no refunds or credits for partial Subscription terms. For help cancelling your subscription, you can contact us at [email protected] For more information, see our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. |
My order is showing as delivered but I didn't get it / can't find it? That's cool - we get that these things happen sometimes. Retold will honor one replacement order for any customer one time only, but unfortunately that's all we can cover. We are still just a small business, so we hope you understand! |
We would like to collaborate with Retold. How can we get in touch? *flicks hair over shoulder* Oh, you like us? We love making new friends! Email sales@retoldrecycling or DM us via instagram @retoldrecycling |
How does Retold Rewards work? Retold Rewards is only for Subscribers. (The Solo Bag, Closet Cleanout 10-pack and the Threesome don’t qualify) Simply add any clothing or textile item to one of your quarterly bags and send it in. Once we receive it you will get an email unlocking our Rewards Gallery where you can select the reward of your choice. It's approx $15 back in your pocket each quarter! |
How much do I have to include in my Retold bag to unlock Retold Rewards? Just one piece. Put even a single item of clothing or even just one handkerchief in the bag and we will reward you! |
Speaking of odd socks, where do their pairs actually go?! We have no idea! But send us those solo guys and we can do something with them! #nolandfill |
How long do I have until I have to send in my Retold bags? You can take as long as you want! Our bags or prepaid delivery labels do not have an expiry date or send-by date! |
Can I send my Retold bag from another address? Yes you can! Have a half-filled Retold bag which can still hold more clothes, or have a left over bag and you have moved houses? Thats no problem, just drop off your Retold bag when you're ready at your nearest post-office or mail room! |
What is your Shipping Policy? Retold Recycling: Shipping is included on all Retold Recycling recycling mailer bags. Shipping for merch (Tote bag etc) varies based on shipping address and will be displayed at checkout. Sustainable Store: Shipping for Sustainable Store products is determined by the supplier. Shipping costs and shipment details are handled by each supplier. |
