What can I include in a Retold Classic Bag?
All your household textiles and clothes can go in our Classic Bags.
We just ask that they are washed and dried.
We will accept your best stuff (yes, wedding dresses!) and also items that are really worn; e.g., a bra where the underwire has come out, or that one odd sock!
What do you mean by “household textiles”?
Blankets, towels, cloths, bed linen, cotton face masks etc! You get the idea :-)
So you will take “good stuff” and “bad stuff”?
Sure will! Even your old underpants! Or cloth diapers! Or that blanket that's been in your dog’s kennel for years! We just ask that items are washed and dried. We'll take things you would be inclined to throw away, items you think are okay to donate, and, yes, items that can actually be re-sold.
Anything I should know NOT to include?
Pillows and cushions.
Paint-covered items.
Shoes - unless they're light and still good enough to be used.

What can I include in a Fabric Scraps Bag?
Our Fabric Scraps Bags are for leftover fabric. Often this might be from your projects: think sewing, quilting, and crocheting, for example.
We can take also items such as thread, yarn, embroidery stabilizers, sewing interfacing, and quilt-batting in these bags.
However, there are some items that we can't accept in our Fabric Scraps Bags. These include:
Leather scraps | Plastic-coated textiles (PVC/vinyl, polyurethane, etc.) | Scrims using plastic | Down-filled items | Wet or chemically-contaminated materials | Neoprene | Foam.
What is the Retold Goes Green Bag?
The Retold Goes Green Bag is a special, limited-edition version of our Classic Bag. It’s designed in collaboration with local PNW artist TryCarrots to bring a fresh green look to your recycling routine. It retains all the functionality of our regular Classic Bag, just with a stylish, seasonal twist.
If you need to recycle fabric scraps, craft remnants, or cuttings, please use our Fabric Scraps Bags - still in our Retold Yellow!
How big are Retold bags?
The dimensions of a single full Retold bag (both the Classic Bag and Fabric Scraps Bag) are 15x15x4 inches.
This is approximately the size of a regular pillowcase.
In terms of weight, we estimate each bag can hold 5 pounds of material, volume allowing.

What happens to the items I put in my Retold bags?
Well, first - they will be diverted from landfill! #NoLandfill !
In terms of Classic Bag items, once sorted by type and quality, they will go to thrift stores, charities, upcyclers, or recycling companies. Everyone has "skin" in the supply chain, so there is incentive not to lose items to landfill.
In terms of items placed in Fabric Scraps Bags, these will go directly to a downcycler to be transformed into reusable fiber.
Do bags come with prepaid return shipping?
Yes, Retold mailer bags come with prepaid shipping labels. Be sure to check inside your Retold package for the label, peel off the backing, and stick it to the backside of your bag before mailing!
How long will it take for my order to arrive?
Retold Bags now ship in our signature kraft envelopes. Compact, eco-friendly, and now easy to spot in your letterbox!
Please note: Our bags no longer ship with tracking. But don’t worry, they’re on their way and should arrive soon! We find that USPS can take between 2 days to 2 weeks to deliver.
How do Retold subscriptions work?
Both types of Retold subscriptions, the Annual and the Quarterly, entitle purchasers to an upfront installment of 3 bags, and further installments of single bags at 3, 6, and 9 months later (meaning 6 bags, in total, per year).
The difference is the Annual involves one upfront payment, while the Quarterly involves four smaller quarterly payments.
Who is entitled to Retold Rewards?
Retold Rewards is a special treat just for our subscription holders.
Simply add at least one item to one of your subscription bags and send it in.
Once we receive it, you will get an email unlocking our Rewards Gallery. You can then select a reward of your choice. It's approx $15 of value back in your pocket each quarter!
I want to cancel my subscription. How do I do that?
Oh we are bummed! But we get it, and, yes, you can cancel any time. You can access your Customer Info via your original subscription email confirmation, and then select to cancel.
However, please note that by purchasing either the Annual Subscription or the Quarterly Subscription you are committing to the entire purchase price charged to date. There are no refunds or credits for partial subscription terms.

How many tons of clothes have you saved from landfill?
Just watch the yellow “ticker” on the bottom of our site! We are kinda smug, but with our customer’s help that number keeps going up and up!
Could anything from my Retold bag EVER go directly to landfill?
If your clothes or textiles are clean and dry, then nope! Our recycling partners may remove some hardware or zips etc, but the fabric itself will be diverted from landfills.
But isn't it bad for the environment to use your plastic yellow Retold bags?
Actually, our bags aren't plastic! They are made from cornstarch and are completely biodegradable and compostable. It was really important to us to find bags that wouldn’t add to landfill. Woot!
How long do I have until I have to send in my Retold bags?
You can take as long as you want!
Please just keep in mind that our bags are made of cornstarch and, after a year or so, can become fragile over time.
Can I send my Retold bag from another address?
Yes you can! Just drop off your Retold bag when you're ready at your nearest post-office or mail room!
What is your Shipping Policy?
Retold Recycling: Shipping is included on all Retold Recycling recycling mailer bags. Shipping for merch (Tote bag etc) varies based on shipping address and will be displayed at checkout.
Sustainable Store: Shipping for Sustainable Store products is determined by the supplier. Shipping costs and shipment details are handled by each supplier.
Tracking Note: In our commitment to sustainability, we utilize USPS’s standard, eco-friendly routes. This allows us to minimize our carbon footprint by avoiding additional transportation methods that contribute to emissions. As a result, we don’t currently offer individual package tracking. Rest assured, your order is on its way and should arrive within the expected delivery timeframe.
